National Aerospace Camp

Image
On Wednesday 25th August, four of our cadets attended the annual National Aerospace Camp held at RAF Syerston. The camp focuses on all things aerospace - from gliding, to lectures about space, as well as STEM subjects (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) such as building robots, and numerous simulators covering not only flying but also air traffic control. The camp offers many opportunities to cadets, including talks with the RAF recruitment teams, giving an insight into the many varied careers available; plus there was a private air display featuring the Red Arrows, among some of the highlights.   From L to R: Cpl P, Cpl G, Cpl C and Cdt G stood in front of a RAF Tornado F2   Cadets enjoying their own private air display featuring the Red Arrows, as well as other RAF display teams

This news is almost too hot to handle

Yes, we finally tracked down the Ensign pole handle. Rumour on the street is that the NCOs stole it and hid it in their cupboard. It's the sort of news that makes you want to rush outside and wave flags. What's more, we decided to stick to the training programme and do Ensign training on Mon 23 Aug.

Congratulations on another Bronze DofE

Congratulations to Cdt B on being the 7th of our COVID-lockdown survivor cadets to finally achieve their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, following on from our successful Bronze expeditions in June 2021.

Well done on Air Cadet Swimming Competence Certificates at St. Nicholas Pool on 20 Aug 2021

Fantastic achievement for cadets in their swimming proficiencies last night. 5 Advanced Swimming proficiencies in one night is amazing, plus at least another 1 Intermediate and 2 Basic! Can't wait till the Wing swimming competition finally gets going again, esp. as we have a least one newbie who has competed at county level! These were the criteria: BASIC SWIMMING COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE FOR AIR CADETS 3. To qualify for this certificate personnel are required to demonstrate Swimming Competence as follows: a. Swim 50 metres without rest, using any recognised single swimming stroke. b. Remain afloat for 2 minutes in a restricted area of water, with a maximum radius of 2 metres. c. Exit the pool at a point where the candidate is out of depth without an aid. However, in locations where there is a considerable distance between the water and poolside, as found in some service pools, some assistance may be given at the examiner’s discretion. 4. All elements of the demonstration are to be p...

Kayaking on River Leam - 16 Aug 21

Image
As one of its staff also coaches for Royal Leamington Spa Canoe Club, this week cadets from 1368 Sqn were given another opportunity to do kayaking on the River Leam with Royal Leamington Spa Canoe Club (RLSCC). They were joined by cadets from 2286 in Coventry. Could definitively see the improvement that comes from 3 long sessions. With skills like these, I suspect they could even paddle a bath tub down a seal launch and keep it upright?

6 cadets get to go gliding

Image
So good to be able to get cadets doing this again. It's been too long! "6 cadets get to go gliding" sounds one too many for an Enid Blyton novel but we did actually have 6 of 1368 squadron cadets go gliding on Sun 1 Sept 2021 (which is actually quite a good number for one squadron). On the day they learnt about how to fly, before helping launch the gliders, and getting to fly a glider. What's not to like? Cadets fly Grob Viking T1's (above).

Welcome to our new website

Welcome to new website of 1368 (Warwick & Royal Leamington Spa) Sqn Air Training Corps. We're not entirely back to normal following the COVID but we're still here and offering opportunities for cadets to join and re-engage in the cadet experience.
