Annies in Action!

Image
On Wednesday last week, our cadets engaged in some essential first aid training held at the squadron. First Aid is one of the most important activities that we do, as it helps cadets to build confidence in emergency scenarios and treat casualties - skills that can save lives in both a civilian and military environment.  To help teach the CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) element of the course, we utilised our new ResusciAnnie dolls that we're kindly provided to us by the Warwick Lions. These new inflatable dolls give a realistic and practical approach to instructing first aid and allow the cadets to practice their skills, as well as learning the theory behind them.

DofE Bronze and Initial Expedition Training (IET) weekend

Image
Well done to the 12 cadets from 1368 who undertook DofE and Initial Expedition Training on 18-19 June, investigating the changing landscape. What rain? Great qualities of preparation, resilience and teamwork shown, living up to the Air Cadets motto: 'Venture - Adventure'. Great to be outdoors and camping. A great foundation for future Bronze expeditions.

New starters look around date - 4th July 2022

Image
Formally we're planning on an induction of new starters from new year 8/9's in September. There is one more intake before then for older age eligible cadets (already year 9's or above typically). There is a new intake night on 4th July, hence fill in contact form and book a place, if interested. Only limited spaces left. .

What's cooking?

Image
With Silver expeditions complete we continue our preparation for Bronze and Gold level Duke of Edinburgh expeditions with some practice outside experience in safe stove usage, the art of food choices for camping, and leaving no trace afterwards. Not stringing you along here but there was reported incident of the phenomena known as "noodle jumping" incidents where instant noodles are resurrected from docile slumber and jump out of mess tins on mass shouting "eek".  It's been a while since I checked it but is a spreadsheet I did of whether food choices for expeditions are good, bad or ugly.

Kenilworth Show

Image
Last Saturday, cadets helped at the annual Kenilworth Agricultural Show. Their duties involves managing the show's main ring and show jumping rings, escorting heavy machinery and horses through crowds, and assisting the event staff with other various jobs that needed doing along the way! The cadets were a real asset to the smooth running of the show, and the event staff could not thank each of our cadets enough - without us, "it couldn't have been possible". Cadets were also generously provided with meal vouchers as a token gesture for food and drink throughout the day. A big well done to all the cadets that helped at the show, and there is no doubt that the squadron will be asked for its services at next year's show. A massive thank you also to the event organisers for accommodating us! Below is a picture of Sgt C with the local Scout's minion, raising funds for their Jamboree.

1368 makes a splash Kayaking on the Leam

Image
Cadets from 1368 Squadron recently had some fun on the River Leam where we learnt that staff are less chicken when it comes to falling backwards SAS - Who Dares Wins style, and has some fun on the seal launch. We also learnt that Cdt P is attracted by different gravitation forces. Adventure training is one of the core activities in the RAF Air Cadets. It helps build self-esteem, team work and comradery. At 1368, we like to get involved in kayaking, climbing and other outdoor pursuits.

Tuning in to Basic Radio Operator (Blue) badge success

Image
Delta Oscar Mike India this is November Oscar Sierra. Well done to the 11 cadets from 1368 who achieved their Basic Radio Operator (Blue) badge. Not easy, especially the practical assessment, but very much rewarding in terms of Pizza consumption.
