Sqn occasionally hitting 50+ cadets if new/old turn up. Squadron has been doing Blue Leadership finish-offs (think Traitor's like Team challenges where participants take turn to lead and there are no traitors). We've been doing this for 6 weeks with 26 Junior's all passing 2 assessments (badges on order, only 2 haven't). As we enter final stages of this Blue Badge training focus there's also a focus on Blue Band Trainee's moving from from practice pads to real instruments ahead of Apr marching band assessments. Our Mid-Uppers have been acing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award exped readiness/planning ahead of schedule due to start of Athletics training in April. Amazing giant Civilian Wings badge for Cdt E (solo gliding outside of cadets). Senior badges for Cdts E/S/Cpl B. Master badge for Cdt P. Leading badge for Cdt M.

Last week, the cadets did some drill practice, partly in readiness for parades that are coming up, partly to give new prospective NCOs some experience "at the front" and also to sharpen up Squadron discipline. Drill is a powerful aid to discipline. It develops a sense of corporate pride, alertness, precision and readiness to obey orders instantly. Good drill in aircraft is directly fostered by the habit of drilling smartly on parade. Thus, smartness on parade is not only a sign of good discipline, but a basic factor in raising the standard of performance in duties. Back in the (really) old days, the Air Cadets used to have its own Air Cadet drill manual. Nowadays this is all gone. The RAFAC aligns wholly to the RAF Drill manual called AP818 . DofE enrolment: An  .doc enrolment form  or PDF  (link to form with some pre-filled info for Sqn) must be completed on first enrolment to eDofE. 1368 Sqn is passionate about the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The DofE is open to young people and has 3 levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Participants complete activities at each level over set periods in each of 4 sections - Volunteering, Expeditions, Skills, Physical; for Gold only, a Residential is added as a fifth section. For the Participant: The DofE is understood by those outside of the ATC. There is a greater expectation of involvement by the cadet in the planning stage of their DofE experience than in standard cadet syllabus, thus accelerating the process of personal development. The ATC syllabus offers an almost ‘off-the-shelf’ programme to gain an Award and there are ample opportunities for cadets and young volunteer staff to gain Awards by their work within the Corps. 17 Basic Swimming Competence Test successes today

Well done to the 17 or so cadets that achieved their Basic Swim test today. Bravo. That means you can partake in 1368 Kayaking mayhem, should you wish. BASIC SWIMMING COMPETENCE CERTIFICATE FOR AIR CADETS To qualify for this certificate personnel are required to demonstrate Swimming Competence as follows: Swim 50 metres without rest, using any recognised single swimming stroke Remain afloat for 2 minutes in a restricted area of water, with a maximum radius of 2 metres Exit the pool at a point where the candidate is out of depth without an aid. However, in locations where there is a considerable distance between the water and poolside, as found in some service pools, some assistance may be given at the examiner’s discretion. All elements of the demonstration are to be performed consecutively in the order shown above, in standard swimwear.
