RAFAC Uniform Link

Image
A useful link (possibly new page as not seen it before): https://www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets/cadets/uniforms/  Cadets are expected to demonstrates their pride in themselves, the Sqn and the Corps, by maintaining high personal standards of uniform and deportment. It's an important part of being a cadet. The RAF provide blues uniforms to cadets. 1368 Sqn is one of the Squadron that provides MTP uniform, although this is a Sqn decision, rather than standard across the Corps.

Squadron Strength 2024-25

Some analysis done for recent Warwick Town Council grant thankyou. Looks very similar to recent Silver DofE route... Huge thanks to Warwick Town Council in supporting grant for First Aid equipment, so that cadets are better prepared for when old people keel over. Also, help for Flight Sim refresh to support blue aviation badge training and enriching our focus around science, technology, STEM and aviation subjects.

OC's cadet of the month for Mar 2025

Image
Well done to Cdt K who entered the hall of fame as OC's cadet of the month for March Ninja prowess and grabbing opportunities outside of Sqn aside, I had a load of "you know who's impressed me..." comments about the +ve impact of his balanced attitude and the strengthening of his personality and character as he's matured into one of the more experienced mid-tier cadets.

1368 Sqn Road March, Sutton Park, 13 Apr 2025

Image
Well done to our two Road Marching Team Leaders (RMTLs), Sgt G and CWO C who trailblazed first ever 1368 Sqn-specific road marching event to enable cadets to achieve necessary mileage to complete their pre-requisites for upcoming RAF Walking and Road Marching Association (WARMA) march. Event was mainly for cadets unable to do Wing event last weekend due Silver DofE date clash but also enabled some cadets to complete blue marching badge. Great step forward for Squadron.

Warwickshire Institute of Sport - Pathways into Elite Sports

Image
Shout out to Dr Brian Darby who gave an insight into elite sports academy training for young people at 1368's recent athletics training. He's performance director for Warwickshire Institute of Sports ( Warwickshire Institute of Sport - Elite Sports Performance for Student-Athletes ), an academic training academy based at Warwick University campus that provides further education options for elite athletes or young people who enjoy sport & eSports, providing pathways into the best universities in sports-related subjects (management, therapy, coaching , journalism or paramedics or police or armed forces). The institute offers alternative education pathways focused on enabling young people to take up to the equivalent of 4 A-Levels (BTEC in Sports or Business + optional additional A-Level (and a few higher education option).

1368 Athletics training with insight into elite speed performance training, 9 Apr 2025

Image
Wednesday saw 44 cadets from 1368 undertake athletics training. Slightly different session as we had a 1-off freebie sprint speed session from Dr Brian Darby ( Warwickshire Institute of Sport ) 2nd half (following on from chat last week).  Amazing insight into the type of performance training taught at top sports universities such as Loughborough University. Was only going to be a 20 min chat to pitch his "alternative provision" sports pathway into Uni, but he got carried away with 1368's energy. He said afterwards how surprised he was by general level of ability. I don't think he wasn't expecting so many to be so good. Other things from night: Some great new ideas for warm ups from Cpl W, Cpl H is faster than last year, Cdt F learnt he can throw Discus/Shot, Cdt T got better after coaching sess.  Oh, and the 1368 Hokey Cokey is back big time, 2025.

Leamington Regency Run community duty, 6 Apr 2025

Image
Well done to the 13 cadets and 3 staff who supported the annual Leamington Spa Regency run organised by Leamington Roundtable to raise money for good charities. Brilliant, as it was first community duty event for many of the cadets who took up post in lieu of older crew being on DofE.  Community Duties is one of 5 pillars that form the foundation of 1368 Sqn's identity: DofE, Sport, Drill, Community Duties, and Fun (in no particular order, apart from that it's a rule that Fun is included in all the others).

Operation Shropshire Gnome DofE Silvers, 4-6 Apr 2025

Image
Last weekend saw 1368's first Silver DofE of the 2025 season. 14 of our cadets plus 1 cadet from 1289 Sqn undertake their practice and actual expeditions in the wilds of the Shropshire Hills. A real pleasure of a w/end had by staff, blessed by near perfect weather and empty hills. There is something about 1368 cadets and their varied personalities at the moment, that seems to bring out the best in each other.  Some impressive expedition & map reading skills. All groups performed at an exceptional level. Of course, we're assuming this is down to our excellent IET/DofE training pathway and had nothing to do with friendships and fun or a Pink inflatable Flamingo ;-) Massive thanks to 1289 Sqn for helping support with staffing.

Transition to summer programme, 2 Apr 2025

Image
OMG. Amazing first Athletics session on Wednesday, top-to-bottom, across all categories (bodes well for future). The teamwork and comradery is on fire at the moment with so many strong but different personalities coming in in last 2 intakes and gelling into a supportive team. OC really impressed with personal effort at first training session for athletics. Full age range back in training and promise shown from new intake. Some of newbies are on rocket fuel. Sqn also switched to a uniform focus with some Wedgewood blue nights. We do not want to just be the best, we want to look the best. Cdt D and Cdt G show OC what a Wing blues badge looks like.

New Cadet Sergeant (Sgt) promotion at 1368 Sqn, 31 Mar 2025

Image
The Sqn continues to look to the future SNCO team structure to cope with strong numbers and retention. Setting personal achievement, drill and uniform standards for others, and a mature understanding of leadership qualities, Cpl G was selected for promotion to rank of Sgt following a mature and effective boarding interview on Monday.  “Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others, it is the only means.”  ― Albert Einstein.  Well done, it won't get any easier.

"Lucky Mother's Day" gliding for 3 1368 cadets, RAF Little Riss, 20 Mar 2025

Image
Sunday saw 3 lucky cadets from 1368 jump in last minute to fulfill scratch places at 612 VGS, Little Rissington. The cadets got a mother's day of dreams (for an air cadet) with their heads in the clouds. It was a glorious and gusty sunny day, including taking control of an RAF Viking T1 (Grob G 103A Twin II Acro) and learning how to assist on the ground. Congrats to Cdt Y who achieved Blue Flying Wings.

Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship Gold Wings for 1368 CWO, Mar 2025:

Image
Massive congratulations to 1368's CWO D who became one of the first air cadets in the country to undertake the new RAF-delivered ACPS scheme at RAF Leuchars in Scotland in March 2025 to achieve Gold Flying Wings. A trailblazer for the new RAF programme, he got to fly a Tutor T1 plane solo for the first time. Many thanks to the Royal Air Force for providing the opportunity. Hopefully the start of many more for cadets that continue their cadet experience post 18.
